Day 6&7: Exit Interviews

Image
A week spent with Albie as a follow on from the same with dear Arlo, to compare and contrast their company here. Two young dogs, same breed & circumstances, yet so different in character and temperament. I've not yet let go of Arlo or said good-bye to him, that's bereavement for you it's just not logical or plays by any rules, so I conflate them in my head and still see them both as one.  I miss Arlo and his ways that would often make me laugh out loud,  I'm learning Albie's new ways, so perhaps one will replace the other over time and seem normal again. Arlo always wore his heart and soul clearly on his shoulder, there was no concealment, whereas Albie is more circumspect, relaxed and then suddenly demanding so these transitions take time. It's been some of the worse weeks of humanity listening and thinking about Ukraine and Rwanda. Albie has been an unexpected and welcome harbour from those storms, missing Arlo, but indulgently able to enjoy his simple lo

Day 5: Where The Wild Things Were

Image
A lazy morning as we were going on another adventure today to the plot and today was the first day without the painkiller, so I wanted to see how Albie was behaving as the morning went on.  Nothing unusual as we went through the usual ritual of patio, food and brushing, although I did notice Albie possesses a bladder and retention beyond his small size - it's a marvel to see the mini-flood that appears as he nonchalantly stands gazing somewhere off into the distance. The only strange thing was when I came to get ready putting on my jacket and shoes, Arlie in his harness I left to wander around the kitchen whilst I got my keys.  When I looked around he had disappeared and I had to search for him, to find him downstairs in the back of cage!  Seemed a sad thing to do and I wonder if he had developed the habit previously, no reason to be doing it now, for sure he doesn't yet leap up and down excited at the suggestion of going out. Today at the plot the resident Mr Fox was silently

Day 4: An Easter of Two Halves

Image
It's been a day of two halves starting with, naturally, the first half. It began with an email yesterday for a show (I had ticketed) titled "We can't wait to see you at The Cycle Show 2022 !" reminding me I had a Sunday ticket with timed entry.  I wondered if I would get in with Albie in arm and decided not to go given the distance, then changed my mind to schlep up to Alexandra Palace with Jnr as it was such a nice day and I'm a bit cabin fevered by now. It took a while, but it got us out of the house, Albie out of his seclusion, to arrive at the top of a steep hill to find  Alexandra Palace , it's huge! We paced around its dozens of doors and entrances looking for the damn Cycle Show in the hot sun. In the end I asked two cyclist where the show was, neither knew, so I gave up in disgust, but in taking a picture of Albie I noticed the show is on next Sunday 🤷🏻‍♂️ Going up on the tube I took some water and a bowl this time, when got a hot bus back to Finsbur

Day 3: The Weekend

Image
On a roll now waking Jnr up early so the routine is done in time for parkrun, today on Clapham Common. Time for a walk and the unmentionables before putting Bob back in the basement cage.  I'm gone for 45 minutes, Joe doesn't seem to mind and just relaxes and lets me run and pop down for the messages. Today's forecast is sunny hot day so it's going to be a mix of patio, pen, sofa and perhaps walks for both of us. A post-run coffee and nap for me with George unconscious on the sofa too. Patio time lets me watch Lowndes's tail wafting in the warm wind whilst he naps,  I can sit out in the sun enjoying a very quiet Easter Weekend thinking about the Resurrection, The Church of England and Hotel Rwanda. Round the night off for some Netflix & Chill with Piers watching the true story of Bhagat Singh  as he crashes out. Living the High Life high off the hog.

Day 2: Creosote Friday

Image
Back into the groove of waking up with a Pom in the house. A slow morning start for Albie to first pace the patio, do the unspeakables,  then back inside for some food and a slow wake-up over espresso for both of us. Brushing too on vet's orders to get his coat back into form and the daily drug hit. A lot on today to sort out the garden, a messy and smelly job with the creosote.  Albie will spend the day in the pen with the patio doors open lazing whilst I do the work out front and back. The Dumont Cam set-up so I could watch Albie whilst working outdoors to make sure there are no more great escapes over the wire when least expected.   When all done, it's a walk on the Common, some recovery sofa time, finishing up the night sniffing some trees before bed.

Day 1: Vet Update - first look

Image
Second bodygro arrived, struck me having just one is like having only one nappy! Parenting101, you always need a nappy+1, always! Took it off to let Albie get some sun and fresh air onto his nether regions during his 5-minute-budget walk to the vet for inspection. Good to be out, 15C, he's walking well but the five minutes is soon up. Vet in time for the 0920 early session, I think the receptionist is going to learn to dislike the trendy glass frontage until some blinds are installed, it's hot in there 🥵 Vet feedback is that all is ok and wound is healing nicely. Extra advice is to consider a spray-on anti-tangle dog conditioner to help keep fur in good condition and use salmon oil on food to oil the coat.  So it's back for a brushing, perhaps the drugs or op-detangle explains why Albie was indifferent to the brushing.  Time for his morning nap, busy morning already and it's not even 10am.  💦 ✅   💩 ✅

Day 1: The drugs are working

💦 ✅   💩 ✅  🧆 ✅   💉 ✅ Could be worse, better hanging out here in Clapham than in Rwanda. Time to tackle the vet about my now lack of.
